Pineapple Express was a movie that came out in 2008 by actor comedians Seth Rogan and James Franco. Many had a high expectation for the movie because the previous funny movies by the two actors in the years before. Many thought it was going to be so funny. Myself included. It was a movie based around smoking weed. The two go on adventure because of some weed that they bought. It's not a bad premise. Being a weed smoker myself, I was interested in the movie. When I saw it, I was disappointed at how much violence and cursing and such was in it. The movie also starts out on an offputting foot, having Seth Rogan be boyfriend / girlfriend with a high school girl. (Ok?) It is a major blockbuster movie, they should not put an illegal underage relationship as the main thing happening in the beginning of the movie. It was a little offputting. The movie goes on, and there are abrupt instances of violence that happen unexpectedly. This is not something that you want to happen when you are smoking weed. For all the weed smokers who went and saw it, they were somewhat startled by this. At least I was. I was hoping for a really cool chill weed-smoking movie. Instead I get violent injury situations. Rogan and Franco's back and forth throughout the movie were entertaining. Although Rogan's character curses too much. I thought it was just too serious of a movie. I did not want any serious things like this when I went to see this movie (like maybe Dude, Where's My Car? was what I was wanting). But the movie was mildly funny for sure. With Danny McBride in the movie, you know things got funny. Danny McBride is one of the funniest, if not the funniest, actor of the 2000s period. His parts in the movie were so hilarious. But they put something even more offputting with McBride's character: a herpes sore on his lip. Ummm, what? That is another very not chill thing in a weed smoking movie. Who in the world would want to look at that? Gross, take it out. Have him just be a funny loving guy in it. I think the movie hit home as a funny weed smoking movie, but it was just too serious and offputting for me. In addition, I have actually been to THE pineapple express in Hawaii.. It's a train that runs through the pineapple farms on the island. Having seen this and known this, I was expecting the movie to be tied into Hawaii or something. Instead, it had nothing to do with it. There were some funny parts of the movie that we all remember, but it was just not the fun-loving stoner movie that I really wanted. It hit the mark close enough however to further propel Rogan and Franco into the stardom. For better or worse. The girl at the beginning of the movie was Amber Heard. We all know what ended up happening with her, she abused Johnny Depp. Or whatever happened with that. But I think the plot of Pineapple Express should have been the Pineapple Express! In Hawaii. And the weed can be in the plot too. I just was turned off by this movie and did not ever watch it again really. If I make a sequel to this, they are most definitely going to Wakiki! Hawaii is such an awesome place. Way better than the grimy backstreets of Los Angeles, which is where they chose to make the setting of the movie instead. Cheers. -MovieReviewCorner
