Valkanvania Movie Review

Valkanvania. It was a mysterious place in the middle of nowhere. There was only one ruler; a judge who lived in a private junkyard courthouse mansion. They took a wrong turn. They came from New York City. And now they were stuck in a country town with a ruthless judge who could control their fate with a swap of his hand. Chevy Chase tries to charm him. And half the time he succeeds. John Candy also is the security policeman for the Judge. The judge is lord of the large country township known as Valkanvania. In rural Pennsylvania. Even with Demi Moore by his side, Chevy is in deep water in this country town. His confrontational city ways are combative against the judge's old-timey ways. The entire house is hooked up to boobie traps. It is equipped with levers and trap doors. Chevy Chase unwillingly falls into them. With Demi Moore's hot ass coming close behind. Chevy remains to keep his sense of humor throughout the whole film, with his first funny sarcastic line being : "There's nothing better at the end of a long day then a nice warm glass of Hawaiian Punch. To good friends." and cheerses the Judge like it's a cold glass of merlot 197. The diet of the judge in the dinner scene is horrific. The makeup of the Judge is positively disgusting. He has a small train that rides around the top of the dinner table. But back to the Judge's makeup. It is way too overdone. We already understand that the Judge is evil. But he doesn't have to be that monstrously disgusting. It makes it too hard for us viewers to look at. Is the makeup job good? Yes, it is. But you don't want to totally disgust us. They came there to look at something pretty, not something disgusting. But the Judge character isn't always on the screen. Sometimes it's John Candy dressed as a woman. Which is plays off beautifully well with the other role of his. Then there are these two disgusting dwarf junkyard creatures that look like giant babies who live in the junkyard and come out at night. How creative! And the Judge's mansion: it is loaded with old stuff and crushed cars in every possible corner. The setting of the rural town owned by a ruthless Judge Alvin is such a believable scenario, and not one thing was spared from the props for this movie. There were 30,000 pieces. Every room had hundreds of papers and odd things. The whole trail leading up to the house when they drove up at the beginning had hundreds of lawn ornaments and electronic devices. It was on a huge property. Chevy and Demi got trapped by his backward jurisdiction. They have confrontations with monsters, and almost escape death from a chomping gore murder machine. In the end, they escape the Judge's booby traps and leave the freak mansion of Valkanvania as it catches up in flames behind them. Chevy's sweet talks paid off. But in the very end, wait, the Judge comes back, AGAIN. It is our worst nightmare. It almost has you believing there will be a sequel or three more movies with the exact same confrontation: Dan Akroyd vs Chevy Chase. They play off each other so beautifully well. This movie had an all star cast. The latin character played by Taylor Negron is fantastic. John Candy held the movie. When Chevy or Demi wasn't holding it. Dan Akyroyd hid behind his makeup in this. It was too much. He should have left maybe half the makeup that he had. So that the Judge would have looked bearable. The character still would have come through. Still, the Realism of this movie was unbelievable! Almost every scene of it is brilliantly shot, and plays out with perfection. There are several trap doors, and creative worlds inside the house and in the junkyard. The whole thing was created from scratch. The world of the Judge and the weird freaks in the Junkyard was not going to be going forgotten for some time. People would remember this. John Candy and his twin Sister. Chevy's cute looks, and Demi looking like a just-married bride. They barely escape, and the judge's mansion and land get overturned by a lava eruption from an underground oil flame implosion in the very end. It's like a trick-house that they have to go through each room to get through. This was the awesomest movie. Except for the fact that they named it the completely wrong name! It came out as Nothing But Trouble instead of Valkanvania.... WHAT?!? Why change the name Valkanvania? That was the name of it the whole time of shooting and production! And then at the last second, Dan Akyroyd changed it to Nothing But Trouble. That name does not encapsulate what this movie is about! Valkanvania was a perfect name! We had never heard of that before. It was something totally new. And he changed it. It ruined the movie sort of. People looked at it and didn't know what to think. Akyroyd tried to blame it on the other movies that opened up that weekend (Silence of the Lambs being one). But people just didn't know if Nothing But Trouble would be good. It sounds like just a bunch of negative stuff when you say the name. Valkanvania is awesome. I'm still going to always call this movie that. They should try to change the name even now to Valkanvania.
