Sonic: we love it. It's one of the greatest video games of all time. So iconic, so thrilling. He runs around super fast on these tracks and jumps around, flipping and spinning so fast it is almost impossible to control. It captivated audiences for generations. So then, they decided to make a Sonic movie in 2020. We thought it was going to be......well...we didn't really know what it was going to be like. Sonic is a little blue character who can run REALLY fast. His world is a completely fake one made of runways that go upside down, on grass, through fast tracks and mechanical robot mechanisms. It would prove pretty difficult to make a real-life movie from this. And what they did, was create an animated Sonic with a real life world, and main human actor as the 'main character'. I think it's a good method, if you are marketing the movie to kids. Which is most of the people who like Sonic anyway, I guess. Hold up, a LOT of people know Sonic. Even up to 40 year olds. They know what Sonic is like. There's a lot of people who paid attention to what this movie was like. But how do you make a real life Sonic character? He's a hedgehog; a furry little animal, and a blue one at that, who talks and runs at 900 miles per hour. How do you do that? You make a blue fur-like suit and put makeup on it over a real human. Instead they decided to go with an animated Sonic for this. It's not all bad. It's just that I am an adult and I do not really like animated things much anymore. I didn't even see this original Sonic movie. I saw that Jim Carrey was playing Dr. Robotnik and just immediately was turned off. Jim Carrey is a great actor. Great. BUT, he does not look anything like Dr. Robotnik. Were these people who made this movie on smack? Yes, Jim Carrey is a great fun awesome actor. But, He is not a fat bald redheaded evil-looking guy! Which is what Dr. Robotnik is. Jim Carrey is too old! They just did not have the right actor for this. Do kids know the difference? No. They are too young to even know what the original Sonic was like. Did the movie still make a lot of money? Yea it did. But using cgi to make Jim Carrey look younger for a part he doesn't even look like the character in is not good protocol for making movies. His hair was not even red! What? Eggman is supposed to be fat, ugly, with a big red hair mustache, and a weird egg-shaped head. Instead we got Ace Ventura Pet Detective battling Sonic in animation with James Marsden running along and trying to keep up. I'm so disappointed that they veered so far away from Eggman's original identity. It's just a completely different movie. Making Sonic animated is a practical solution that they can make him do whatever they want with it. But we want the characters in our movies to look like the REAL characters! This should go without saying! Make our characters look like they actually look! Hey, at least the real-life version of Sonic the Hedgehog movie idea is still out there up for grabs. I've got to make a phone call. :) -Movie Review Corner
