This movie came out in 1985. It is the story of an astronaut on a foreign planet who crash landed and has to coexist with another being who also crash landed there. It stars Dennis Quaid as the main character. The alien actor dresses up in makeup and looks like a lizard human type species. The alien planet they land on has different creatures and follies that they have to get through. They have to overcome their differences to survive together, and at the end they eventually reunite with mankind. The first time I saw this movie, it had me enthralled. I was staring waiting for the credits to role so I could see the title of this movie so I could never forget it. After the end of all the credits rolled, there was the title: Enemy Mine. It is named this because they have a mining facility on the planet that they crash land on. They fight one of the most amazing alien creatures in this movie. It is a creature that lives at the bottom of a pit, and makes the animals fall and slide in it and it waits at the bottom to eat them. It is actually modeled after a real creature: an "Ant Lion". These little things lived in my hometown, and you could literally throw a little ant in the little dirt pit, and it would grab it and pull it down in the pit. It was very small. This movie was so realistic it was insane. You really believed you were on an alien planet here. At the end there is also this antagonist that is so evil-seeming it's a little disconcerting. They also show the offspring of the alien man, who Dennis Quaid has to raise himself. They even made a tiny little book with hieroglyphics of the alien language that had shiny letters that he has to look through to study the language and culture of the "Dracs" (the alien race). Most of the movie is total isolation of Willis and Jerry. They are just trying to camp out and survive on the rough terrain. There is a super hard turtle shell animal that they must harvest to use as a shelter from the extreme meteor showers that happen on the planet. Overall, the film's attention to realism is amazing. It's a little extreme at times. But this movie will have you on the edge of your seat, seeing the fate of Davidge and Jerry. It touches your heart, because Davidge and the alien's son become close, and bond over the years of raising him, although they are two different species. In the end I will not tell you what happens, but you've got to stay and watch until the very end to see! Enjoy Enemy Mine. -MovieReviewCorner
