This is an unknown Arnold Schwarzenegger movie but is truly a masterpiece. Coming out of the year 1993, this action flick is about a fictional film character who jumps out of the movie screen and into real life with this magical golden movie ticket. The character, Jack Slater, then has to interact in real life after having left his fictional world of the movie where everything works out. Arnold plays himself in this: An action movie star who's always knocking the heads of the bad guys and saving the day. The villian in this movie is a mob boss who supposedly never has missed a shot, Benedict. He has incredible aim with his gun. He is ruthless but also incredibly genius. The fictional world of the movie Jack Slater lives in and real life are paralleled very well. He gets in arguments with his Police Chief, and has to take care of his daughter. He gets shot at but somehow never gets hurt. Then after he crosses over he suddenly can be hurt in the real world. Arnold is everything we want in an action hero: muscular, good looking, dashing, and heroic. The idea is interesting and one that has not been done too many times. They even have a funny parody in the movie of Sylvester Stallone as being the main actor in Terminator. They are in a movie rental store and there is a cardboard sign that has Stallone in it instead of Arnold. The main character of this film, a 15 year old boy, and Arnold go escapading around the city eluding all sorts of foes and narrowly escaping danger. The movie has a fresh take from what we usually see in that it breaks the 3rd wall of the movie screen. They talk about what it's like in movie world versus real life. This film for some reason did not get much critical acclaim over the years. Perhaps it was the cheezy lines, or all the other good films that Arnold was in. It got lost in the Arnold film lore. Last Action Hero was a masterpiece. It is rumored Arnold Schwarzenegger said it was the best script he ever read. The main character tries to plead with Arnold to convince him that this is a movie, and not real life, but Jack Slater does not believe him. This composes part of the dynamic of the movie. They even made action figures and play toys from this movie. I had the little cut up shirt Jack Slater Arnold action figure. This is an awesome movie with good back up performances: Check out Last Action Hero!
