The Mummy was one of the greatest films of our generation. It was as captivating and enthralling as Star Wars, and The Matrix. Brenden Fraser really harnessed an action hero in the 1920's set treasure hunting tale. There were amazing special effects, all imaginable sorts of props, including swords, 1920's guns, and leather. From beginning to end, The Mummy captivated us. We are so pulled into O'Connell's adventure trying to find the lost city and the massive treasure. He meets various characters along the way, and has a lot of mysticism from ancient Egypt brought to life by special computer effects. This was before the big cgi burst so movies weren't so drowned down with computer effects like they are now. It made us believe it was more real. Every scene is an action adventure, and a cinematic masterpiece. The brother of the main female protagonist Evee is a funny guy, who provides the comic relief accent to Brenden Fraser's dashing masculine seriousness. Many moments you laugh out loud at everything the brother says. The scene on the boat where he hits the crooks off the side of the boat and uses all sorts of props is really amazing. The real folklore backdrop to the story is what makes it so real and good. It has a touch of seriousness that really makes you think it could be real. The effects were so on point and hardly distinguishable from the real stuff. The scarab beatles under the guy's skin, and the huge sand face in the sandstorm in the desert, all of it looked perfectly plausible. Fraser's acting was truly amazing. The energy and adventure he brought to this role and this movie is just unbelievable. He had humor, masculinity, get-up-and-go, and would take care of business. All the realistic costumes also were what made the Mummy so good. The supporting characters all performed impeccably and really contributed to the success of the film. It's a movie you can watch again and again. Rachel Weisz has an unbelievable female performance as the love interest of Rick O'Connell. She is an expert of Egyptian history, and is the catalyst for the whole movie. What a great movie! The Mummy!
