Virtuosity was an amazing movie from the 1990s about a virtual man who came into the real world, was hell bent on destruction, and had to keep eating glass in order to survive. A convict with prior experience with him was convinced to come out of jail and help the police to trap him. Russell Crowe is the main character (villian) and Denzel Washington is the main hero. The movie takes place in a city, and Sid (Russel Crowe character) is wreaking havoc anywhere he can find. Russel Crowe is everything you want in an actor in this movie. He completely owned the Sid character. He was a raging psychopath who was charismatic, sexy, and good looking. He held nothing back and was in touch with his animal nature. Denzel at first is a humble convict, but then comes into his character and realizes he must use his skills for good to help capture Sid 6.7. Denzel is released from prison, and chases him and battles Sid in various circumstances and crosses into and out of virtual reality. It is a futuristic set movie, but was only created in the 1990s. The portrayal that Russell Crowe delivers in this is mind blowing. He is a completely sadistic off-his-rocker guy that is obsessed with the idea of being publicized and highly broadcasted. He has the personality of many different criminals in his mind, which he downloaded from the virtual system. He is like a super-psycho. He is entralled with the new world, having been only living in the virtual world for all of his "life". He wreaks hell and Denzel is in his pursuit. After Sid gets hurt, he needs only to eat glass to get better, his wounds rejuvenated. It is a wicked and interesting twist to a perhaps otherwise normal plotline. The effects in this movie are amazing. This film never fails to impress in realism. It is entertaining and enthralling from beginning to end. Crowe owns this villanious character. The details of the cyber world are cunningly real also. And this was before that technology even existed mostly. The supporting actress is not bad. The subplot is basically them infiltrating the virtual reality system and they are either attacked or defending. This is one of those movies that just flies under the radar that not many people know about for one reason or another. I think it might be because of the sadistic nature of Crowe's character. He delights in others seeing his murders and holds hostages on camera. It is a little disturbing how realistic it is. It can be a little violent and gory at times in this movie. Check out Virtuosity.
